Sadie 04:02
Sadie There's a river far up north that the railroad follows There's a mansion that old money bought and later swallowed When the sunset comes pigeons settle on it's eaves and mark the valleys curve by the old elm trees There's a broke down car there's a borrowed dollar There's a pack of hounds running loose up the hollow When the moonshine hits the man so hard Little Sadie I'll be in your back yard This old house once stood great, shrugs a shoulder to it's fate and yields to the feeling of time slowed down Natures rules are born again, dear old Sadie be my friend You're stronger than the will of time gone by, of time gone by Sadie walks the tracks down to the rivers island where the homeless in the summer wash thier clothes they know her to be kind, but she hears voices all the time and late at night we often hear her sing I must admit I'm persuaded by her charms though I cannot say exactly what they are and she says, " There ain't no use to hurry, pull up yourself a chair, now tell me dear, what's brought you by this way?" This old house once stood great, shrugs a shoulder to it's fate and yields to the feeling of time slowed down Natures rules are born again, dear old Sadie be my friend You're stronger than the will of time gone by, of time gone by

Goodbye Mary Jane MaryJane don't you comfort me you stay right where you are So long now you've been a good friend but you're a dead end, that's all There've been many times I've sympathized and justified your stay I needed you like you wanted me to now won't you go away You've eclipsed my wildest dreams and put me in the shade Then you try to convince me that you are the sun and that I've got it made You put voices in my head that tell me I can fly Well I ain't no bird and I ain't no catch and I do not like your lies I don't have that much to lose but it doesn't mean I should I'd just come back and start all over again and I'd hate to think I would have to meet you one more time and fall in love again And have to write this same damn song just to say goodbye, my friend, my- MaryJane I'm leaving you you can't hold me anymore You've burned your way into my soul It's time to close the door close the door!

Shady Grove 03:39
Shady Grove Cheeks as red as a blooming rose And eyes of the prettiest brown She's the darling of my heart Sweetest girl in town And if I had a glass of wine Bread and meat for two I'd set it out on a golden plate and give it all to you Shady Grove I say Shady Grove, my little love I'm bound to go away When I was a little boy I wanted a Barlow knife But now I want little Shady Grove to say she'll be wife A kiss from pretty little Shady Grove Is as sweet as brandy wine There ain't no girl in this whole world that's prettier than mine Shady Grove I say Shady Grove, my little love I'm bound to go away I once had a muley cow Muley she was born Took a jaybird forty years to fly from horn to horn Fly around my pretty little miss Fly around my daisy Fly around my pretty little miss You know you drive me crazy Peaches in the summertime Peaches in the fall If I can't have little Shady Grove I'll have no love at all And if I had a needle and thread as fine as I could sew I'd sew that pretty girl to my side and down the road we'd go Shady Grove, my little love Shady Grove I say Shady Grove, my little love I'm bound to go away

Midnight Salvage Went down to the crossroads, to lay my greenback down Went down to the crossroads, to lay my greenback down Say, I know where I have to go to turn this hard life around Went down to the crossroads I heard that precious sound Found my midnight salvage and, I knew my reverie Found my midnight salvage and, I knew my reverie I caught a ride to the other side and found that I was free Found my midnight salvage and I knew my reverie

Redpoll 03:33
Redpoll Redpoll come from far away I'm thinking maybe will she stay She hovers at the springtime's edge and makes her way along the sedge Morning comes and daylight grows melting what the darkness froze Show your scarlet cap to me come here close that I can see I find you in the white birch grove I reckon it's why my spirits hove all a'rosy on your breast finds you in your social best Catkins dangle on the trees you break apart for tiny seeds and chatter past my window sill belly full you fly until...... The snow is high around my door just like it was twelve months before three logs and the stove is full the bed is warm I feel the pull Shadows lengthen 'till they fall muffled from my beck and call Burrowed in your sleepy hole within a breath of brother mole

Stalk Your Calling Weasels hunting by the riverside his sight and senses down of a sudden from up above an eagles talons turn him around Weasel sinks his teeth in the birds white neck as he's lifted off the ground He's hanging on for the dearest life ever imagined to be found Air borne bones and far flung fur reasons why will differ The eagle's flying east and The weasel's falling north, while we.... Stalk our calling, we can stalk our calling We can stalk our calling and the weasel's falling north Once I loved a goddess, she lived in a cabin by the river We'd go walking on the dark night when the wind would make me shiver It seems I took to careless love and I did not know what I had Ambition took hold of my liberty and like a frightened deer I ran Your line of light travels far Blue ascending morning star Imminent is what we are, when we... Stalk our calling, we can stalk our calling We can stalk our calling Imminent is what we are The air is thick, and the sound is bright, light is flashing in my eyes sweat runs off of my nose and cheek as I crouch in the reeds grown high I had to rise early to watch you swim from your den across the pool climbing up the bank in ritual as you gather winter fuel Well the rain may flood and the sun may burn You swim free as I observe I walk away knowing my prayers are heard, when we... Stalk our calling, we can stalk our calling We can stalk our calling And our prayers are often heard Our prayers are often heard

Wishing Pool 03:48
Wishing Pool Rolling on bridges high over water lights of the barges shine down below I think I see the city on the horizon Orion is gone from this night owl sky I'm too far from home, too far from reason too far away from my own sleeping bed I been too many miles, spent too many dollars got too much music going on in my head, in my head Can you take a hint, can you see your shadow or listen for a trace of it's sound I can hear the stories go on for ever all those lost souls are now homeward bound They were lost in the scraps of your handwritten letters lost in the weave of your old hand-me-downs They were worn on the heels of these boots that you gave me looking for you on the streets of this town What will you do with this broke down gambler who clutches for threads of grace in the air who whispers to Mary, "how I adore you" and dreams of the days when the sky was so fair. Just give me one last chance for my fortunes are changing Quiet my soul for this old wishing pool I'll throw one last dime into the clear water the well it is deep and the drink it is cool Just give me one last chance for my fortunes are changing Quiet my soul for this old wishing pool I'll throw one last dime into the clear water the well it is deep and the drink it is cool, It is cool

Heaven 03:30
Heaven It ain't the weight of heaven It's not the love of sin It's more like standing at those gates Waiting to be taken in My true love must love another I can see it in my angels eyes She longs for the places of beauty Fickle as the rain It's not much like loving whiskey It's not like drinking gin It's more like after the fever And you finally welcome love in So close on the distance Sail the the country wide So tell me, roots of mercy Where will my tree grow If I find a place in your garden Would you let my angel know So Huck's got his raft on the river, and Tom has his day of fame And I'll keep my rail and road And this good old walking cane It ain't the weight of heaven...

Sweet Dream 03:31
Sweet Dream All you have to do is tell me what you'd choose In your wildest dreams 'bout something you would be And if you would say, yes I know this would be blessed Some call it the longest run I say, this could be fun it's a Sweet Dream I can't tell you nothin' You don't already know This love defies all logic but it's where we have to go I won't get suspicious If we see things differently We got one thing in common We all would like to be In that Sweet Dream Have you ever noticed when there's something on your mind It's like a carrot on a string It's there all the time I would just be happy I would get along if I could ramble on your street just singing this old song 'bout a Sweet Dream

Lazy June 03:29
Lazy June The sun will rise like the day is long The dew will lift off of the lawn Lazy June drifts on the breeze Honey's looking for the bees Turn around I'm laying next to you Funny how some dreams just might come true I hear the fish jumping in the lake I wonder how much love this boy can take Cherries fall from off the trees Dark and sweet your mystery Pinch my cheek and open up my eyes If I'm still here I'll need no alibi I think I'll stay in bed all day and let the world turn as it may I'll read a book, you can scratch my back I think I'll have have a little more of that Rock and roll me honey oh so slow We've only got forever don't you know The light may fade without a thought what's come has come, what's not has not Fisherman cast out his line hold me closely one more time before the old man moon, he bids us up to play and we row between the stars in the milky way
