lyrics

Sadie

There's a river far up north that the railroad follows
There's a mansion that old money bought and later swallowed
When the sunset comes pigeons settle on it's eaves
and mark the valleys curve by the old elm trees

There's a broke down car there's a borrowed dollar
There's a pack of hounds running loose up the hollow
When the moonshine hits the man so hard
Little Sadie I'll be in your back yard

This old house once stood great, shrugs a shoulder to it's fate
and yields to the feeling of time slowed down
Natures rules are born again, dear old Sadie be my friend
You're stronger than the will of time gone by, of time gone by

Sadie walks the tracks down to the rivers island
where the homeless in the summer wash thier clothes
they know her to be kind, but she hears voices all the time
and late at night we often hear her sing

I must admit I'm persuaded by her charms
though I cannot say exactly what they are
and she says, " There ain't no use to hurry, pull up yourself a chair,
now tell me dear, what's brought you by this way?"

This old house once stood great, shrugs a shoulder to it's fate
and yields to the feeling of time slowed down
Natures rules are born again, dear old Sadie be my friend
You're stronger than the will of time gone by, of time gone by
